We
are eager
to work with new writers. We also love to work with established writers
exploring a new form or voice. Our character?
Give us something to think about,
mull over, wonder at. Lift us to a new cognitive level. Compel
us to contemplate.
Fiction Nonfiction Poetry Theatre Scripts Photography Payment is contributor's copy only for this first year of our run. We hope to be able to offer monetary payment starting our second year. If you would like to help us pay our contributors earlier (or more!), please contact us about becoming a sponsor. We reserve the right to edit for space or content considerations. We purchase one time rights and second or reprint rights. If your piece has been previously published, please let us know where and when.
Give us good STORY;
genre-blurring,
magical realism, humorous, experimental, flash, novel excerpts if they
read as stand-alone stories; mainstream, contemporary, historical ONLY if
they take us someplace truly unusual; FRESH picks from the traditional
story garden; STORY first. Up
to 8000 words. Shorter
lengths encouraged. The world
needs more humor and food for real thought.
Take us somewhere wondrous that we've never been before.
Typical length, 3000 words or less.
We will accept up to three submissions at once of flash fiction
(less than 750 words). Also actively seeking Logomorphs.
Publishes
2
pieces per year; 3000 words or less.
Must take us somewhere truly unusual; or provide indirect or unexpected
views of something familiar. Elements of the weird or inexplicable
welcome, but must be examined toward a worthy purpose. Narrative
drive, quality of STORYtelling is most important.
No navel-gazing. We'd
like to see more work with a sense of humor.
Character should be central to the piece.
Travel pieces need vivid sense of setting and again, a strong
through-line of STORY.
We spotlight
one
poet per issue. Formal verse
only; recognizable patterns--e.g., haiku, sonnet, even limerick--but tell
us something new in, or show
us a new view of, an old form. Give
us something to wonder at or about; to ponder in our hearts.
Irony, humor, and passion (for subject and language) much
appreciated.
Speculative themes and material encouraged.
Submit up to five poems, up to 10 pages total.
Publishes short one-acts and dramatic monologues only; standard format, up
to 20 pages (shorter than 10 pages is preferable). We are passionate about seeing more theatre pieces;
there are not enough venues for playwrights in the publishing market.
Take us somewhere unexpected, with compelling characters.
Black and white photography depicting circuitous routes, "roads less
traveled," or ordinary or natural objects viewed from a new and
uplifting perspective. Send us pictures of pathways we would dearly
love to travel, or indirect or unexpected ways to look at something
familiar. We would also love to see more photographs that tell
a story in themselves; that really activate your imagination when you view
them. For the winter issue, we are specifically seeking photographs with
unexpected or particularly remarkable illumination. |
